Nami Island, one of Korea’s most popular global tourist destinations, has also been over the past few years the site of the Nami Island International Children’s Book Festival(NAMBOOK).
To realise NAMBOOK Festival’s motto, “Let’s eat and drink while crawling and playing amongst books!”, the whole island is transformed into a “Library in Forest” where one can find books everywhere including the hotel rooms, rest rooms and pathways in the hope that the imaginative and creative powers of all visitors can be inspired.
Nami Island, Inc. is the official sponsor of the Hans Christian Andersen Awards.
The initiatives and activities of Nami Island are based on the convictions of Minn Byeong-do, the founder of Nami Island, who early on supported the cultural and artistic sectors including music, arts and especially books for children.
This inherent corporate value allows the 3 million visitors who come to Nami each year to experience cultural and artistic events in a beautiful natural setting.
Nami Island, Inc. contributes its profits to diverse cultural events and NGOs including UNICEF and the NAMBOOK Festival.
Thus, the Nami Concours, an illustration contest initiated by Nami Island in 2013 offers extensive support for children’s book artists by providing an opportunity to present their works.

The primary aim of Nami Island International Illustrators Concours or NAMI CONCOURS is to provide artists with the opportunity to introduce their work on a global scale so that illustrators throughout the world can be inspired to create high quality works of art. Ultimately, we hope Nami Concours will contribute to an increase in the quality of picture book illustrations for children.

NAMI CONCOURS, 남이섬국제그림책일러스트공모전에 대하여
<배경>
한국의 휴양관광지인 남이섬은 2005년부터 세계책나라축제를 개최해왔다. “책을 먹고 마시고 베고 깔고 날리며 책속에서 뒹굴어라.”는 슬로건과 함께 섬 전체를 도서관으로 만드는 숲속 도서관”으로 조성되고있다.
호텔과 화장실, 그리고 길거리까지 책을 비치하여 남이섬에서 휴식을 취하는 이들에게 상상과 창조를 자극하는 공간이다.
남이섬은 한스 크리스찬 안데르센상 공식 후원사이다. 50년 전부터 설립자인 민병도 선생이 음악, 출판, 미술 등 문화예술 예술예술 분야를 후원해 온 정신을 계승하며, 특히 미래의 주인공인 어린이 책에 대한 관심이 높다.
매년 남이섬을 찾는 300만명의 방문객들은, 아름다운 자연환경 속에서 문화와 예술의 예술의 흥취를 체험하고 있다.
남이섬은 기업 활동으로부터 얻어지는 수익으로 유니세프를 비롯한 세계책나라축제, 각종 문화예술공연 및 전시, 환경단체와 시민운동 NGO단체를 지원하고 있다.
2013년부터 처음 시작된 국제그림책일러스트레이션 공모전인 <NAMI CONCOURS>는 이러한 사회공헌사업을 보다확장한다는 뜻에서 좋은 어린이 책을 창작하는 아티스트들에게 창작과 발표의 기회를 제공하기 위하여 개최하게 되었다.
<NAMI CONCOURS, 개최 목적>
NAMI CONCOURS(남이섬국제그림책일러스트레이션공모전)는 전 세계의 아티스트들을 대상으로 자신의 작품세계를 알릴 수 있는 기회를 제공하고, 세계각국의 일러스트레이터들이 어린이 그림책의 새로운 세계를 개척하는 창작활동을 지원하는 데 목적이 있다.
